Empowering Individual Believers to Do Faith Works… that works ! Old Mother Hubbard Went to the cupboard To fetch the poor dog a bone, But when she got there The cupboard was bare, So the poor dog had none. Remember the story in Matthew 15:21-28 of the Canaanite woman who approached Jesus wanting Him to cast the demons from her daughter? Remember the response of the disciples, “Send her away, for she is shouting out after us.” Jesus answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But the woman bowed down before Him saying “Lord help me!” And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from the masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be as you have desired.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
Sometimes as Christians we endeavor to meet the needs of those who believe as we do and wait for outsiders to convert to our way before we will consider helping them. After all, we are called to the lost sheep of our own fold. But from my experience, with those who won’t darken the door of a church, the way to reach into their hearts is to put our faith into action instead of just spewing words of good deeds intended. James 2:15-17 “If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” |
